About us
A small, experienced team that does the job properly.
Rolfe & Sons is a family-led groundworks and outdoor improvement business based in the local area. The business is run by Steve Rolfe, who has spent over twenty years on the tools, working across everything from residential driveways and patios through to commercial groundworks and reinforced concrete projects.
We deliberately keep the team small. That means Steve runs every job personally, communication stays clear from quote to completion, and we only take on work we can finish to a proper standard.
Most of our customers come through recommendations or repeat work. We have built the business slowly over many years on doing the job right the first time, leaving sites tidy, and being straight with people about what is possible and what is sensible.
What we do
Six things, done properly.

Groundworks
Excavation, levelling, foundations and reinforced concrete works for residential gardens, new builds and commercial sites. We handle the structural work that everything else gets built on top of.

Drainage
New drainage installation, drainage repair, soakaways and French drains. Most outdoor problems start with water in the wrong place, and we know how to redirect it.

Driveways
Block paving and resin driveways, fully prepared from the sub-base up. The preparation is what makes a driveway last twenty years instead of three.

Patios
Stone, porcelain and concrete slab patios. Levels checked, joints clean, edges proper. Built to handle weather, furniture and family use without lifting or cracking.

Artificial grass
Modern artificial grass with proper drainage and a ten-year-plus lifespan. Suits family gardens, low-maintenance properties and rental homes.

Fencing
Replacement panels, concrete posts, gates and full boundary installations. Done properly so it stays straight, secure and weatherproof.

Reinforced concrete foundation works
In late 2023, Rolfe & Sons was appointed to deliver reinforced concrete foundation works at Reading Football Club. The project required precise structural work to specification, careful site preparation and on-time delivery within a three week window. It demonstrates the standard of work the team is able to deliver on commercial groundworks projects, alongside our residential work.

You receive a clear, itemised quote in writing. Fixed price wherever possible, with realistic timelines and no hidden extras.

Proper preparation and groundwork
Once the work begins, we focus on getting the foundations, levels and drainage right before anything visible goes on top.

Clean handover
When the job is finished we walk it through with you in person, address anything you would like adjusted, and clear the site fully before we leave.
